Gun-ei Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., established in 1946, manufactures and sells two main product lines: phenolic resins, and sugar/starch products.

In the phenolic area, Gun-ei presently ranks as the top producer in Japan, with 25% of the market. Gun-ei phenolic resins are widely used in the automobile industry for molding and laminating engine parts; in insulating materials for the housing and construction industries; and in the iron, steel, and manufacturing industries.

In its second main area, sugar/starch products, Gun-ei is one of the four largest producers in Japan, with 10% of the market. Its dextrose and high fructose corn syrup are widely used as sweeteners for beverages, cookies, bread, and other foods due to their low cost and ready solubility in comparison with cane sugar. Gun-ei has high expectations for the future of KynolTM phenolic resin-based novoloid fibers.
